The Brother HL-2270DW laser monochrome printer is a feasible alternative to today’s inkjet printer, which has become a bottomless money pit. Modern photo, multicolor, and high-capacity ink cartridges are expensive, so multiply that by your print volume and try not to be surprised by the true cost of operating. As an alternative, augmenting a printer setup with a low-cost black-and-white laser printer can help save money in home offices that use black ink cartridges for text-only documents. The gradient increments were so abrupt that a severe checkered pattern developed, indicating that the printer couldn’t handle the transitions. In addition to the overall digital effects, the small photographs we printed were hazy in the shadow regions. In our 12-step shading test, the HL-2270DW also fell short. Harsh banding formed soon at the 40% shading point and worsened as the proportion grew.
