Brother MFC-665CW Manual (User Guide & Setup Guide)

The Brother MFC-665CW is an all-in-one inkjet printer with a long variety of functions and connectivity choices. Unfortunately, despite its high overall print and scan quality, its software and design idiosyncrasies may drive customers away. The printer setup was a little difficult due to its boxy, outdated appearance. The USB port is concealed beneath the scanner cover, so you must route the cable through a trench. Depending on your workplace space and the length of your connection, this may limit how you position the printer (which is not included). The input tray, which is placed beneath the control panel, is advertised to take a maximum of 100 sheets of paper, but we had difficulty fitting 60 sheets into the tray and after doing so, the printer frequently jammed. The MFC-665CW can print, scan, and exchange photographs through Ethernet in addition to USB. Initially, we installed and configured the printer using the USB connection. This procedure was simple, and we were able to print and scan documents in no time. Camera memory cards were successfully inserted into the machine mounted on our Mac desktop. We did, however, have some difficulties when attempting to test the printer through Ethernet. Printing over the network was simple, we hooked the cable into our office LAN, ran Print Center, and Bonjour immediately recognized the device. However, scanning across the network did not work until Brother staff advised us to erase all Brother software and reinstall it with Ethernet as the default connection. We were then able to scan to our Mac via the network connection. Transferring images from an inserted memory card to your Mac over the network was also challenging. You must login to Brother’s internal FTP site using your browser or FTP software and download them from there. In comparison to competing printers that incorporate photo-sharing software, the Brother’s FTP method is not as user-friendly. If you intend to use the Brother across a network, a USB card reader or connecting your camera directly to your Mac would be preferable. The app also does not provide the best Mac user experience. The scanning program is simple to use, but customizing choices beyond quality and color are limited. If you don’t have 20/20 vision, you’ll find yourself squinting before pressing the Scan button during the preview scan. This MFP appears to excel at faxing, and it has other extras such as color faxing (provided the recipient scanner is color capable). It also makes use of the phone connection by including its own handset, voicemail, and speakerphone, allowing it to function as a replacement for your phone. People who prefer calm working settings may not appreciate the MFC-665CW’s constant beeping sounds during printing. We were relieved when we eventually located the option to disable that feature.
