Brother MFC-J5720DW Manual (User Guide & Setup Guide)

If you need an inkjet multifunction printer that can effortlessly transition between letter- and tabloid-size (11-by-17) paper, consider the Brother MFC-J5720DW. It prints on letter-size paper in Landscape mode, as do all of Brother’s Business Smart models, and has a wide enough paper path to print on tabloid-size paper in Portrait mode. It also has two paper drawers and a back tray, unlike less capable versions, so you can keep both letter and tabloid-size paper loaded and print with either size as needed. It has more paper capacity for increased capabilities and a cheaper cost per page, saving you money with each page you print. This model’s basic MFP features include printing and faxing from a PC, scanning to a PC, and functioning as a standalone copier and fax machine. It can also print from PictBridge cameras, scan to and print from a USB key or memory card, and display photographs from a memory card or USB key on its 3.7-inch touch screen before printing. Beyond the fundamentals, the printer enables mobile printing and Web-connected functions. You can print over the cloud if you connect the MFC-J5720DW to your network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and you can connect an iOS, Android, or Windows mobile device to the printer via an access point on your network to print from or scan to the device. You may also print from and scan to a variety of websites using the touch-screen menus (including Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote, OneDrive, and OneNote). Even better, the Brother Apps on the menu allow you to scan to a variety of file formats, then save the file to a cloud site or send it as an email attachment without the need for a PC. File formats include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and searchable PDF, with Brother’s servers in the cloud recognizing the scanned text when the file is created. You won’t be able to print over the cloud or utilize other Web-related capabilities if you connect the printer to a single PC by USB connection rather than a network. It does, however, support Wi-Fi Direct, so you may connect to it straight from a mobile device to print and scan. With a built-in duplexer (for printing on both sides of a page), two 250-sheet drawers in front, and a one-sheet manual feed in the back, as well as a multi-purpose tray that can hold 80 letter-size pages or five tabloid-size sheets, paper handling is unquestionably a strong point. Both front drawers can hold paper up to tabloid size. The MFC-letter-size J5720DW’s flatbed is supplemented by a 50-sheet automated document feeder (ADF) that can take up to legal-size documents for scanning. Even better, the scanner can duplex, which means it can scan both sides of a sheet at the same time, as opposed to scanning one side, flipping the paper over, and scanning the other. The combination of duplex scanning and printing allows you to copy both single- and double-sided originals to single- or double-sided copies for copying.
