Epson AcuLaser CX11N Manual (Installation Guide)

If a consumer All-in-One printer and scanner are combined, a business All-in-One printer and scanner should be combined. However, until recently, the best you could do was a mono laser. Epson is changing all of that with the AcuLaser CX11N, the first in a new line of multifunction devices based on the C1100 color laser engine. It’s a fairly large machine, and you definitely don’t want to move it on your own. Despite Epson’s efforts to integrate the two main components, it still appears to be a color laser printer with a color flatbed scanner bracketed above it. It makes the entire device quite tall, and if placed on a desk, the scanner may be awkwardly high for shorter users to use. It is preferable to invest in a printer trolley. The control panel, which is built into the device’s front edge, features a well-configured, five-line, back-lit LCD display, as well as a ring of menu controls, a number pad, and separate buttons for starting mono and color jobs and canceling running ones. A cover hinges down at the bottom of the front panel to reveal a 180-sheet paper tray, though it doesn’t pull out in the usual way. Instead, you slide the paper into the machine by placing it between the guides. There is no multi-purpose tray for feeding special media, which is unusual, but a secondary, 500-sheet tray is available as an option. The scanner section is a standard 600dpi flatbed with no separate controls aside from a lock to prevent damage in transit. There are USB 2.0 and network connection sockets on the back, as the device is network-enabled by default. Installation and maintenance are a little tricky, as you must open both the front and top panels and remove a series of covers for the carousel’s four toner transfer rollers. Toner cartridges are inserted through the front, and the photo conductor drum is inserted diagonally from the top. Because the scanner fits snugly over the top of the printer, Epson thoughtfully hinged it so that it can be folded up vertically and out of the way. There’s a good selection of included software, ranging from Epson’s Creativity Suite to Presto! Page Manager and the print driver have been completely redesigned to provide excellent print support, including watermarks, image zoom, and page imposition. The CX11N employs a carousel-based laser engine, which means that each of the four primary colors is laid onto the page in turn by rotating a toner cartridge carousel. The technology is small, but it should take four times as long to print a color page as a linear engine with all four cartridges in line.
