The CX1500 is a low-cost printer that is noisy and slow while printing photos. Because it doesn’t support PictBridge or have a memory card reader, all photo prints must be done on the computer. Nonetheless, the print and scan quality were excellent. The CX1500 took a long time (31 minutes and 55 seconds) to print our high quality A4 image on glossy paper, but it was well worth the wait. The photo was reproduced with great color balance and sharpness. There was a smidgeon of color banding in certain grey areas, but the image was otherwise flawless. In standard mode, text output was also extremely nice, while fine mode produced even better results. The quality can also be reduced to draft mode, which prints a complete page of text in 13 seconds with poor resolution, grey characters. In our tests, printing a full text page took 39 seconds in standard mode and 1 minute 11 seconds in fine mode. Due to the printer’s lack of support for 4″ x 6″ picture paper, photos of this size would have to be printed on an A4 sheet and then trimmed down to size. The included driver program is likewise limiting, as it does not support printing long documents in reverse order. The scanning capabilities of the CX1500 were good, and it accurately captured the color and detail of our test image. The TWAIN driver has a well-designed interface, and it can recognize different images on the same page and scan them into distinct files automatically, which saves a lot of time picking and cropping. During our tests, however, the scanner was quite slow. There is no OCR software included with this model.
