The Workforce 633 is a four-color inkjet printer (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). That means it scans, copies, and prints, and it can be managed from your computer through your wireless network, just like the other printers we’ve looked at this month. If you forget your laptop at home, you may print directly from a USB flash drive or SD card. Images produced at the highest possible resolution on Epson’s photo paper were extraordinarily detailed and some of the prettiest we’ve seen. The Artisan 725, a six-color Epson printer we examined, generated much-improved photo quality, but only because of the two extra inks’ enhanced depth of color. In black-and-white printing, however, the Workforce 633 outperformed the Artisan. The black font was, well, black, so it was easy to read. On plain paper, photo printouts were average to slightly above average. Copies were highly detailed, but over several generations, they flowered out to over-saturation. The Workforce comes with both a flatbed and a sheet-fed scanner, allowing you to scan 30-page documents as simple as single 4 x 6-inch images. This printer will not fit in your cramped home office if you’re looking for something small. It’s huge, clumsy, and certainly not fashionable enough for today’s tech fashionistas. If you only need a little amount of area, don’t want rich color, and don’t care how your printer appears, the Workforce will suffice.
