The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 is a high-capacity color multifunction printer that can print on tabloid and larger paper sizes. Despite being an inkjet, it’s intended to compete with color lasers, and it exceeds the large-format color laser MFPs we’ve tested in important categories such as speed, price, and cost per color page. It boasts a decent collection of MFP functions and consistently high output quality. It is our Editors’ Choice for tabloid-size color multifunction printers for medium- to heavy-duty use in a small office or workgroup. The WF-8590 is a huge machine that measures 18.3 by 23.2 by 22.4 inches (HWD) when closed for storage and 22.1 by 23.2 by 35.5 inches (HWD) with the feeder and output tray extended, necessitating the need of a separate table or bench. It weights 78 pounds, so it will require at least two people to get it into place. A tabloid-size flatbed sits atop the printer, coupled with a 50-sheet automated document feeder (ADF) that offers single-pass, two-sided scanning. The front panel is located beneath the flatbed and tilts outward at a suitable viewing position. It comes with a 5-inch color touch screen, an alphanumeric keyboard, and several function buttons. The main tray can accommodate tabloid or A3 (11.7-by-16.5-inch) paper, while the multifunctional feeder can accommodate super-tabloid paper and print banners up to 13 by 45 inches. The normal paper capacity is a little low for the price, but adding even one extra paper tray will increase capacity while keeping prices cheap when compared to tabloid color lasers.
