The Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One Printer, as its name suggests, is a small home all-in-one printer with good overall output quality and a variety of networking options. Although it is not the tiniest home AIO on the market, it is more adaptable than its smaller competitors. At a very affordable price, it delivers the great performance and feature set that I’ve come to expect from Epson’s Small-in-One range. The printer has the same weight and dimensions as its predecessor, measuring 5.4 by 15.4 by 11.8 inches (HWD) and weighing just 9 pounds. A 2.7-inch non-touch color LCD is housed in the tilt-up control panel above the output tray, flanked by a four-way controller with central OK button, plus buttons with icons for Home, Start, and Backspace. It features a paper feeder on the back that can hold up to 100 sheets of ordinary paper or 20 sheets of picture paper. This limited paper capacity is adequate for home use, but it falls short of what we’d consider adequate for a home office. The XP-440 prints, copies, and scans but does not fax, as is usual of cheap home all-in-ones. This printer lacks an automated document feeder (ADF), which is a feature that is frequently overlooked in low-cost home printers for scanning or copying multipage documents unattended. The flatbed scanner can scan or copy documents up to the size of a letter. SD cards can be read by a memory card reader. The XP-440 may connect to a computer through USB (but not Ethernet), to a network via 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, or to a compatible device via Wi-Fi Direct for a direct peer-to-peer connection. It supports Google Cloud Print and is Apple AirPrint compatible. It is also Mopria-certified for seamless printing to Android devices. Email Print, Epson Creative Print, Epson iPrint, Epson Remote Print, and Epson Scan to Cloud are among the Epson Connect software solutions supported.
