The HP LaserJet Pro M181fw is a fantastic color multifunction laser printer, perfect to have at home or in any office. The truth is that it comes very complete, it is silent and allows you to print wirelessly from both tablets and mobile phones. Its installation is quick and easy, and from what we have seen, it presents one of the best quality / price combinations on the market. This we have discussed is just a “snack” for what comes next. So without further ado we begin with the analysis of this peripheral. This HP printer measures 435mm wide and deep by 343mm high. It has a square format that makes it more “compact” than other models that we have seen within the same segment. In terms of weight, it is exactly 16.3 kilos. Also lighter than many of its rivals. On an aesthetic level, although white dominates, it also has some elements in dark color. These “neutral” shades, not very flashy, are intended to go as unnoticed as possible on any desk or work table. At the top it has the scanner and an automatic document feeder or 35-sheet ADF of plain paper, which will help you increase productivity. Below we have the output tray that can hold up to 100 sheets. On the front of this HP LaserJet Pro M181fw, apart from the logo of the American firm and the power button, it has an input tray at the bottom for a maximum of 150 sheets. If we look at the control panel located to the left of the output tray, we will see that this HP laser printer has a two-line LCD screen, whose function is to display the menus and all kinds of information about the printer. We also find a 10-key numeric keypad, as well as other buttons to navigate through the menu, cancel jobs, start black and white and color copies, adjust the darkness settings, send faxes, etc … Turning it over, close to one of the sides has been fitted with two connector modules: the first one “gathers” a USB input (in case you decide to use it with a cable) and an Ethernet connection; while on the other there is a fax “line in” port to pair the printer with a fax line and a telephone “out line” in case we want to connect an answering machine or other device to it. Although the best thing about this type of printers with wireless connectivity is that you can “forget about the cables” (except the power supply). Since it comes equipped with dual band Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, a protocol developed to send files to a compatible printer to start printing without using any cables and without having to connect to a router or LAN that acts as an intermediary. The HP LaserJet Pro M181fw is Mopria certified and you can use it with the manufacturer’s own HP ePrint app or AirPrint if you are using an Apple device. These apps also give you the ability to print from the cloud, which comes in handy when you’re on the go. Not to be overlooked, this HP MFP is capable of printing, scanning, copying and faxing. If we stick to the technical sheet, this laser can print at a speed of 16 pages per minute (ppm) with a quality of 600 x 600 dpi, if we reproduce documents in black and white. The printer includes 256MB memory and its maximum monthly duty cycle is around 30,000 pages (150 to 1,500 per month recommended), which is not bad at all. It is also not specified how long it takes for the first page to come out, although from what we have read, some users were not too happy with this aspect. As a laser printer is expected, the print quality is really good, with vivid colors and text that is perfectly legible. It is ample not only for housework, but also to carry out many business tasks. The maximum size is A4 format, with sheets with a maximum weight of 90 g / m². It’s a pity that it doesn’t support automatic two-sided printing. In the case of wanting to use it as a photocopier, a maximum of 16 pages per minute in monochrome and color has been calculated. The maximum resolution is limited to the 600 x 600 dpi that we said before and we will be able to reduce or increase it in a range that goes from 25 to 400%. If you need to scan, you can do it directly from the glass or through the ADF.
