The EcoTank ET-4850 can cloud print from a number of sources and techniques, as well as scan documents to the cloud. Other features include copying, faxing, a 2.4-inch color display, 2-sided printing, and a revolutionary EcoTank ink system rather than cartridges. When fully assembled, the printer measures 417mm x 503mm x 255mm and sits on your desk. It’s not the smallest printer on the market, but it’s a multifunction printer, so it has to be a certain size. After the printer was set up, I barely used the 2.4-inch touch color display on the front panel. My devices handle all of the functionality through the Epson SmartPrint or Epson iPrint applications – more on those later. Each color’s ink levels are immediately visible on the front of the printer, indicating how much of each color is remaining. Epson claims that there are thousands of pages of ink included in the package, but I think it’s a bit of a stretch given that, at the time of writing, I’ve printed about 20-30 pages using various ways and set up the device, and the inks appear to be approximately 80 percent filled. There’s around 10% of each bottle left after filling the tanks at the setup, plus a full spare black bottle. However, the setup consumed a lot of ink with the head cleaning and so on, so once you get past that, the use appears to be minimal. The SmartPrint app is the best and most convenient way to use the printer, but it requires that you be on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer. I had to use the SmartPrint software to get double-sided printing to operate, but it worked perfectly without having me to re-insert the page. Scanning a document is simple with the SmartPrint app, and you can save it to your phone or local device right away. You may also explicitly specify a cloud destination, such as a Google Drive or OneDrive account, as the destination.
